Sometimes, after some losing days, just narrowing your goals can bring you into tighter focus.    After reaching just 50% of goal these past two days, I ducked further trade calls so as to be sure and finish the day ahead.    Eventually, I'll be willing to continue taking risks again until my minimum goal of 5 bills is attained.   But in the meantime, I'm just taking it easy, and quitting while ahead.

"Most of the problems we face in our trading are those that are found in our heads."  ...or so said someone in the foreword of a book on trading.   But knowing that doesn't necessarily make it any easier to overcome.   And one aspect of clawing your way out of a losing period is the importance of putting your errors and the markets that accompanied them well behind you.   If not, then you're likely to skip taking the opportunities as they present themselves in order to avoid more mistakes--and suffer the consequences to your bottom line.    For as important it is to contain the losses of your bad trades is the necessity to take those opportunities that fall within your Trade Plan when they present themselves.

...and a good weekend to all...

A tiny victory in SIM mode following 2 losing days allows me out of the penalty box, but not with much enthusiasm.  One potentially profitable trade in the RTY was missed on slow reactions.   You can't be afraid of making mistakes in the fast moving futures markets.  Trades wait for no one.

Two losing days in a row for my trading.   That puts me into the penalty box for tomorrow, and so I must trade in Simulator mode.   Most likely following this tremendous buying spike across the board, tomorrow will be a day of consolidation and 1st Frame swings, instead of vertical impulse action.

Vertical markets are usually the most challenging.  ...especially those that start off dull, and therefore give you little if any indication that breakouts will be something better than stop-outs.   ...and short covering rallies  have a special flavor all their own.   Their are few if any pullbacks, and the breakouts that do work tend to come at the end, when the market is already viewed as overheated by most momentum studies, and therefore deemed too late to participate.

Keep a tight handle on losses, and the days of swings and measured moves will return for intraday trading.

The action of the Nasdaq can draw you in like moths to a flame, and although I did well with using 5-lot micro's today, I would have actually profited more by trading the far less volatile Russell 2k using its E-mini contract.   However, with the NQ volatilty you do get the added benefit of peak momentum signals, and full grid level exhaustion trips.   In the RTY, on those appraised entry reversals, price continually came up shy of both our TTI Momentum and Pivot-Exhaustion Grid signals to fulfill full Technical Event Entry Concepts.   In other words, GoldieLocks would not have been happy with bending her rules as to her just-right temperature gauge.

You could find no better example of index bifurcation than in today's NQ and Russell 2k action.   Since we trip over medical terms like that, we just call it vice-a-versa,  or just versus play, for short.   Just study the smallest time frames in the NQ and RTY contracts for the 1st Frame of the day, and you'll quickly see what is meant.   For nearly every upward reaction in the NQ, there was a corresponding reaction downward for the RTY, and then that game became prominent again, but in the opposite direction as reversals in both contracts took hold as the noon hour approached.

And yet, at other times, they were in complete sync....all while the big cap ES and YM mostly just sat there to tread water--until they didn't.

You can always lend the excuse that it was FOMC day, and though even though scheduled for the Midday Frame, 1st Frame action is still under affect.

I shall make no such excuse for my own trading today, as two prominent winning trades were fumbled at the keyboard, one each in RTY and NQ, that would have at least kept me treading water  better until the end of the 1st Frame.

Limit your losses on challenging days.   Tomorrow is just around the corner.

As per comments regarding Financial Juice, it seems everyone else but me is still getting a streaming voice narration of pending econ news events, and that it must be something with my browser that is now in conflict....

sheesh...  computers...    ya can't live with 'em, and it seems apparently that it looks bad to the neighbors if you're caught repeatedly backing up over one at the end of your driveway in your Audi Allroad...

Sometimes just not losing two days in a row is a small victory unto itself.   And just so, as a Trade Plan Behavior Stop demands I begin the third day on the Simulator, if the previous two days were indeed losers.    But otherwise, I'm still smarting from the trades I missed yesterday from failing to shake my 'bull on pullbacks' trend prejudice.

I really missed the Financial Juice website's no-longer-active voice narration today, where it would have been nice to have had streaming headline voice coaching me in my ears a warning that the highly anticipated Michigan Sentiment numbers were to be delayed 45 minutes.

If anyone knows of a substitute talking econ headline news to replace my now silent Financial Juice, please email me at will@valhallafutures.com

To say such days as today fall into the extreme volatility is only to state the obvious.  But more, to capture a pullback within a perceived trend is to be fooled into thinking pullbacks are not in fact new, true trends.  There are no "pullbacks".   There are only long and super over-extending true trends. Therefore, one must learn to identify the middle ground where normal pullbacks might reside as breakout entry triggers on the way into the new over-extended extremes of the second fresh trend.

Try putting that into the Trade Plan of the majority of trading days and your trading account will disappear quickly.   Breakouts are tricky as it is on any day.  But to succeed with breakouts on days like today, you have to learn the skills necessary to shake off the trend prejudice that develops from the pure amazement at the trend your ego has just missed.   "I have to at least get a piece of it", your mind is saying.  "Or how else can I possibly save face?"

And just so is the internal opposition towards using these middle areas coming back down into the "false pullback" as triggers for the new, true trend about to unfold with equal but in fact far greater amazement than the trend you just missed.

It would all be rather just amusing if it weren't for the fact that a cold, mechanical treatment of the Inflection Breakouts offered by your pet technical analysis tool, Serial Sequent Fractal Algorithm had not given you the exact places in that foreboding middle ground to trigger breakout entries into the budding new trend.    "Is there any more room on your face for mud?" was the only question left residing for my late morning coffee.

Needless to say, some of the most challenging action we've yet faced in what is historically the most volatile market in history.   Have a maximum loss figure for a behavioral stop, just like you have a profit goal for the Frame.   If x number of days of max losses in a row, and/or in a week, pull out of your cash account and go into simulator mode.   There is no shame in curtailing trades when the action override your entry targets and stop-loss ATM's.  No amount of the reappearance of fresh technical entry signals should ever override your behavioral stop-loss limits.    ....Survive to continue trading...

The market action tends to train you to do exactly the wrong things at the wrong time.  Good case in point today was my initial management of the ORB breakdown play into the first selling trend.   The signal of an ORB pennant in the MNQ was clear.   I ignored the emotional fear of calling and taking that trade despite the deep gap price started out with.   But I was Moses with my stop placement thereafter, and choked it down to a small stop once it went my direction about 10 points.   The best rule for changing a stop is the arrival and then survival of a retest back to the breakout point.   But I ignored that, and rushed to move my stop because I didn't have faith in plan management rules.

After a string of 6 days of about breakeven, I quit with a small profit just to claim a victory, in what have become the most volatile markets in history..     ...at least we're having fun.
